Drink to Success With Wine Affiliate Marketing

By John Hartley

Do you enjoy a glass of wine? Know your Bordeaux from Cabernet Sauvignon? Well, why not put that knowledge to good use and get into wine affiliate marketing? Actually, you do not need to be a wine expert, but it helps if you drink wine now and again as you will be able to match up the product and the market first.

As always with affiliate marketing, start off by researching the market. For a product like wine, it would be useful to start at Amazon to see what books on wine are selling well, and how the best seller ranks overall among non-fiction books. This will also give you an idea of what types of wine are popular at present. You will need to market both white and red wine, though.

Choose wines that can be delivered to your region

The wines you decide to market would depend where you wanted to market them, quite simply because wines need to be delivered to the customer. If you are living in North America then google.com is your starting point, but in Australia it would be google.com.au, and in the UK google.co.uk, and so on.

Of course, you can’t find wine products in Clickbank, except perhaps a book about wine, which would be worth using as an upsell. You need to go to Commission Junction or Linkshare or another affiliate marketing network that handles tangible products to find wines.

What type of wine will you market?

Once you have ascertained that there is a market, and there are wine sellers who market through affiliates, the question is what type of wine to market. You will probably do better with party wines, which are cheap, because more people are likely to want to buy a case of wine for parties than for their ‘wine cellar.’

This is still a small niche, but the volume should be quite good. Of course, you need to market where party-goers hang out. This is probably on sites like Squidoo and Hubpages, rather than in forums, but no doubt there are forums for wine drinkers.

What the wine people want for parties are the younger wines where consistency is more important than the depth of the wine, and the bouquet is not at all important. In other words, these are the cheaper wines, but preferably from good regions where consistency is valued, such as California or Australia. You can also get some good cheap Spanish wines that are ideal for parties. Some of the wines from the south of France are also quite good, but the Italian wines tend to be less consistent in quality.

If you enjoy wine, you will find that wine affiliate marketing can be fun, and profitable.
